Mandy & Mitch and the Big Brave Boots

Monkey and myself were thrilled to receive our newest book, ‘Mandy and Mitch and the Big Brave Boots’. The book appealed to Monkey straight away, with its clear cover and two cheerful characters.

‘Mandy & Mitch and the Big Brave Boots’ is the first in what we hope will be a series of books from Little Boot Books. Little Boot Books are a partnership between three women all interested in making mental health a conversation from an early age. It is important we talk to our children about emotions and how to understand them, so they can learn how to deal with them throughout life. This book helps that discussion. Mandy and Mitch approach the issue of worries and how they can take over your body, making you angry and scared.

The book uses the imagery of worry bubbles, multiplying over Mitch’s body making him hit and shout and eventually being consumed by one big bubble. His friend Mandy wants to help but not knowing how to, she finds her ‘Big Brave Boots’ to help them both to be brave. They share Mitch’s worries and pop the bubbles together.

The writing is clear, simple and child friendly. Monkey found it easy to understand what was happening and how worries are best shared. The illustrations are also clear, bright and reflected what is happening in the story; this helped Monkey to understand the story even more.

I know Monkey loves this book as we had to read it five times in the first day, which wouldn’t happen if it wasn’t a winner. It has also helped us to talk more about worries and how sharing worries is important to solve them. Altogether, this is a great book for toddlers and beyond, we can’t wait for Little Boot Books’ next book.
